The less noticed kitchen trends for 2016

There is so much going in the world of kitchen design that it is sometimes hard to keep track. While there are major trends that grab most of the attention, there are more subtle trends that you should consider if you are planning to renovate your kitchen. Amongst the less noticed trends for 2016 are thin countertops, glass and/or metal cabinets and accessories and neutral kitchen colours that have bright accents.

When it comes to countertops, Caesarstone is truly an industry leader and has been creating innovative designs for almost 30 years. The company offers homeowners an incredibly wide selection of quartz surfaces of varying design, surface and colour. Each countertop comes in several widths. For example, the 4001 Fresh Concrete countertop featured in the modern kitchen below comes in three different thickness levels- 13 mm, 20 mm and 30 mm. The kitchen uses the thinner surface which provides the counter with an airier and lighter feel.

It is important to note that if you want to select a thinner countertop, the type of material you choose plays a critical role. Caesarstone’s quartz surfaces, regardless of the thickness type you select, are durable, easy to maintain and hygienic. Caesarstone’s countertops are made from up to 93% quartz which is one of the world’s hardest materials. As a result, the surfaces are incredibly strong and can easily withstand the wear and tear of modern living. In addition, because quartz is non-porous you don’t have to reseal them, making quartz a wise economical choice. Another advantage to their being non-porous is that mold and mildew can’t penetrate their surface and they are therefore highly hygienic.

Closely related to the thinner countertops which provide kitchens with an airier feel, designers are choosing to incorporate more glass and metal elements to reinforce a weightless style. For example, glass cabinets have a lighter feel than bulky wooden cabinets and add an element of pizazz to the modern interior. The kitchen below is a perfect example. The gleaming top counters have an airy feel which is further enhanced by their off-white colouration.

Additionally, the orange glass backsplash is a fabulous design element which adds colour and vitality, and the glass lampshades complete the composition. The same effect can also be achieved using metallic lamps. Designers are increasingly using minimalist metallic lamps to communicate lightness and modernity. There are metallic chandelier-like lamps that add luxury to a kitchen without burdening it, and which also work well with the stainless steel appliances.

Another trend that shouldn’t be overlooked is neutral kitchen colors of natural materials with bright accents. The main advantage of this trend is that the accessories can be easily replaced and the kitchen ‘reinvented’ (at a relatively low cost compared to replacing more permanent elements of the kitchen) . The kitchen below combines a classic marble-like surface with modern golden accessories that give it an artistic feel. The kitchen island is made of Caesarstone’s 5111 Santuario Nuvo design, an off-white marble with deep grey veins running through it.

The marble is truly timeless and serves as a wonderful base. As far as accessories are concerned, the kitchen has a large golden light fixture that adds glamour to the space, and the other golden elements- the shelves, bowls and bottles all add to the composition and enhance the its appeal.
