Caesarstone presents "Swings" by Philippe Malouin at the Interior Design Show, Toronto 22 – 25 January 2015

January 15, 2015: Caesarstone, the leading manufacturer of premium Quartz surfaces, is proud to announce its collaboration with London based, Canadian born designer Philippe Malouin. The Swings installation will be unveiled at the Interior Design Show (IDS) in Toronto where Caesarstone has previously previewed work by Japanese studio Nendo (2013) and London-based Raw-Edges Design Studio (2014).

Swings is an interactive installation composed of a 12-piece swing set placed in a circular arrangement. Exploring the juxtaposing element between play and contemporary art, the installation demonstrates a minimalist, monolithic sculptural language, while simultaneously connecting to the idea of childhood memory. New colours and textures from Caesarstone’s Supernatural Series and the upcoming Concrete Series are displayed in a minimalist, sculptural manner. Typically associated with carefree, childish activity, the swings are removed from their original playground surroundings and relocated to a sparse environment, bringing an out-of-context element into play.

A fine example of Philippe Malouin’s penchant for simplicity and processes experimentation, the material’s textures and natural looking designs are shown to full effect, reflecting thesophisticated qualities of Caesarstone product design and utilization of state-of-the-art technology. The usability of the installation emphasises the inherent characteristics of the surface material – such as strength, durability, and flexibility.

“The installation invites people to interact with the product naturally. Although it looks and feels extremely natural, the material has some really amazing qualities for designers to work with and which allow it to be machined and handled with more flexibility than stone.”
 – Philippe Malouin, Designer

Each year we explore a new design concept that displays different elements of Caesarstone; be it new colours and textures from our latest collections, or inherent surfacecharacteristics – such as strength and durability. Philippe’s work is extremely directional, fresh, and thought-provoking; and we feel it brings a fascinating new angle to the platform we are creating for Caesarstone.” – Eli Feiglin, VP of Marketing at Caesarstone
